What measures have been taken to optimize meeting accessibility?

All presenters have been given the CLP 2026 slide deck template, which includes minimum recommended font sizes to ensure readability. All live presentations should have closed captions enabled, and closed captions can be added by individual viewers for pre-recorded content. In line with these efforts, the Subcommittee on Accessibility, Fellowship, and Engagement (SAFE) held a webinar in August 2026 led by Dr. Deepika Sundararaj, SAFE Vice Chair, titled "Increasing Accessibility in Academic Presentations." All presenters are encouraged to view this recording: https://clpsychiatry.org/member-resources/webinars/2026-webinars-august-19/

Meeting Content

What is the meeting theme? What is the purpose of a meeting theme?

The meeting theme this year (2026) is Expanding the Vision of C-L Psychiatry: New Roles, New Settings, New Pathways. The purpose of the meeting theme is to set the intellectual tone for the conference, guiding its focus and shaping the selection of sessions, speakers, and educational content. The theme is chosen by the Academy’s President and meeting organizers and typically aligns with their areas of interest or specialization. The meeting theme can be used by the Annual Meeting Committee to develop high-priority submission topics. When evaluating abstracts for presentation at the conference, the Scientific Program Committee gives preference to submissions that seek to incorporate the theme of a given year’s meeting. Examples of previous years’ meeting themes are as follows:

2025 - Innovation in C-L Psychiatry: Exploring the Promise and Pitfalls of New Approaches

2024 - Promoting Whole Health Through Innovative and Integrative Approaches to C-L Psychiatry

2023 - Integrating Care and Evidence Across the Lifespan

2022 - Making Connections: Inspiring Transformation Through Education

^

What types of sessions are there?

There are five types of scientific/educational sessions at the ACLP annual meeting:

1. General Sessions: 75-minute sessions delivered by a group of speakers that promote high quality learning experiences focusing on relevant, "hot topics" in C-L Psychiatry.

2. Brief Oral Papers “BOPs”: Brief (10-15 minute) presentations delivered by one speaker consisting of a didactic learning format utilizing slides for dissemination of information related to original research, a meaningful project, new developments, or a review of programmatic clinical care innovation related to clinical care. BOPs are clustered into multi-paper (typically five) sessions by theme for a total duration of 75-minutes.

3. Poster Sessions with Authors: There are two poster sessions when authors present their work live in the form of posters displayed on large boards in a shared space like a hall or ballroom organized into sections by topic. This informal and interactive format encourages one-on-one conversations between presenters and viewers.

4. Skills Courses: Half day (4-hours) live courses promoted by established experts that promote the development and implementation of skills relevant to C-L psychiatry through active learning and engagement targeting members who hope to develop expertise in a new area or improve skills. These sessions cost extra and are not included in general conference registration.

5. Plenaries: Invited presentations featuring keynote speakers, major announcements, or presentations on topics of broad importance to the entire C-L field. These are presented by prominent speakers, the Academy’s President, and award winners (e.g., Katon Award Lecture, Hackett Award Lecture) and last 30-95 minutes. In addition to these educational sessions, there are a number of other types of events scheduled including a welcome reception, a mixer and meet-and-greet, the Ask Us Anything with senior Academy members, Special Interest Group (SIG) and committee/subcommittee meetings, networking opportunities, industry exhibits, and more.

Pre-recorded General Sessions and BOPs will be available to registrants through the meeting portal. Starting in 2025, the ACLP Annual Meeting has also included pre-recorded Update Courses, which are 45-60-minute sessions where experts share some of the latest research and clinical pearls on topics relevant to C-L psychiatrists. These sessions make for a great meeting warm-up during your travels to San Diego!

^

What are the social events that occur outside the meeting?

There is usually an early morning running group and a meditation/mindfulness group. For social events at the meeting, click "networking events" when you are viewing the conference schedule. For social events separate from the meeting program (such as food tours), these events will show up as optional when you go to register for the meeting and cost extra.

^

What are the networking events that occur as part of the meeting?

The poster sessions, special interest group lunches, Ask Us Anything event for early career psychiatrists, mixers, and additional special events (usually with a cute name that changes based on the meeting theme/location such as the "saloon" or "cove") are structured opportunities for networking. This year in particular, the Networking Subcommittee and Membership Committee will co-host a new event on Friday afternoon called the Gaslamp Gathering. This casual drop-in event is a chance to connect with colleagues, expand your professional network, and learn more about opportunities to get involved in the Academy. All meeting attendees are welcome!

^

Will this be recorded and available later?

Generally speaking, networking and preconference courses are not recorded. General sessions are recorded. Oral paper sessions are sometimes recorded, sometimes not. Award presentations such as the Hackett and Katon awards are recorded.

Making the Most of the Meeting

^

How do I decide what to attend? There are so many things happening at once.

Most of the sessions are recorded so you can watch them at a later date, once they are posted online. Consider attending sessions that most align with your interests and provide opportunities to interact with others (ask questions, network, etc.).

^

Am I allowed to leave a session early to attend another session, to see different oral paper presentations?

Yes. However, if you anticipate that you might leave a session early, please be courteous and consider sitting in the back to minimize any distractions when you get up to leave. Also, as noted above, most of the sessions are recorded.

^

What if the room is full for the session I want to attend?

Please do not crowd the room (we must observe fire code restrictions). Some presentations are recorded and can be viewed via livestream simultaneously or at a later date. Occasionally, if there is sufficient demand for a given session, an additional room will be set up with more seating with the live content projected onto a screen at the front.

^

What are SIGs and subcommittees? Can I show up to these meetings and simply join the group?

SIGs are special interests groups. They range from clinical interests like child, oncology, quality improvement, and addiction to identity groups like early career. These meetings are open to all. You can sign up to be on their listserv.  However, you do not need to be on the listserv to attend the live meeting at the conference.

Committee and Subcommittee meetings are closed meetings only open to committee/subcommittee members. You can apply to be on a committee or subcommittee through their annual application cycle.

^

What is the business meeting?

This is an open meeting and all ACLP members can attend. All members are encouraged to attend so that the meeting can reach quorum. ACLP leadership provides updates on the business aspects of running of ACLP and members can provide commentary.
