Voting begins on January 4
President of ACLP 2018-2019, Rebecca Weintraub Brendel, MD, JD, FACLP, has been nominated to stand for election as president-elect of the American Psychiatric Association (APA).
The APA slate of candidates for its 2021 election of officers, which closed for nominations in mid-November, shows two candidates for election as president-elect: Dr. Brendel and Jacqueline Maus Feldman, MD, UAB Psychiatry, Alabama.
Voting begins on January 4 and closes at 11.59 pm ET on February 1. Results are expected mid-February and the transition of leadership takes place on May 5.
Every year ACLP asks candidates running for the APA president-elect position about key issues impacting the field of C-L Psychiatry and publishes their statements on the Academy’s website so that those Academy members who are also APA members can consider for whom they will vote.
The APA president-elect assumes the office of president at the end of each annual meeting. The president-elect chairs the APA’s Joint Reference Committee to which APA’s 13 councils report, and is a member of the Board’s executive committee. S/he appoints chairpersons and members to existing APA components and works with the president and the Board to set priorities for the Association, and with the Board and the CEO and medical director to formulate policy and develop initiatives to advance those components’ priorities.
