ERAS now available for Applications to C-L Fellowship

We are excited to announce that the ACLP has decided that C-L Psychiatry may use ERAS (the Electronic Residency Application System) as a method for fellowship application starting with the 2023-2024 recruitment season.  Fellowship programs will decide for themselves whether to accept applications via ERAS, email, or both.

Here are some key dates of the 2023-2024 ERAS timeline for program directors:

  • June 21st: PDs gain access to the Program Director's Workstation of ERAS
  • July 5th: applicants gain access to ERAS to being application process
  • July 19th: programs begin receiving applications and start their reviewing process

ACLP Recruitment Guidelines for Fall 2023

The Academy recommends that all interviewing for recruitment in the fall of 2023 be done by virtual means, in accord with policies already announced by the AADPRT and AAMC. There should be no in-person or second-look visits, but programs may schedule virtual events or tours. If these are offered, they should be offered to all applicants. Please see the guidelines from the Fellowship Education Subcommittee approved by the ACLP Board of Directors here.

Clinical Vignettes for Fellow Evaluation

Developed by the Fellowship Education Subcommittee (FES), a series of 22 vignettes are presented as a competency-based assessment tool to assist program directors in the task of evaluating fellows and maintaining their accreditation.

Assessment Forms for Fellowship Program Use

The ACGME has called on medical subspecialty organizations to develop consensus assessment instruments for use in fellowship training. As a response to the ACGME, and from feedback from our fellowship directors, the ACLP Fellowship Education Subcommittee has designed three consensus assessment forms available for your use in the evaluation of fellow performance.

The ACGME also requires faculty be assessed prior to appointment and annually thereafter. A faculty assessment form which you may find useful has also been created.

MS Word IconProgram Directors Guide to ACGME Requirements for Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry

Developed by the Fellowship Education Subcommittee (FES), the Program Directors Guide is the product of a critical review of both the ACGME One-Year Fellowship requirements and the Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Fellowship requirements, compiled, abridged and formatted into action checklists. The guide is designed to help simplify and highlight critical requirements for program directors and has been updated with regard to requirements instituted July 1, 2019.

Video: Briefing regarding ERAS for Management of Applications to CL Fellowship Programs

This is a recording of a session held in the spring of 2022 regarding the possible use of ERAS for applications for fellowship training. The system was recently adopted by Addiction Psychiatry and feedback from programs has been very positive. Applicants are used to this system from their residency applications. Use of the system will increase convenience for both programs and applicants and help present our subspecialty as organized and professional. The video may be viewed here:

This is a recording of a Fellowship Education Subcommittee-sponsored webinar held on April 6, 2023. In this session, Richard Peng, ERAS Outreach and Engagement Manager for AAMC, provides an overview of ERAS for C-L fellowships who will be adopting its use for the next selection season.
