Other C-L and Related Organizations

  • The American Psychiatric Association's Council on Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry focuses on psychiatric care of persons who are medically ill and thus stands at the interface of psychiatry with other medical specialties.
  • American Psychosomatic Society (APS): Since the early 1900s, the APS has maintained a tradition of multidisciplinary research and education of psychosomatic problems. The Society and its journal, Psychosomatic Medicine, reflect this tradition with members from many fields, including internists, psychologists, psychiatrists and others. The Society is one of the most relevant organizations that inform the practice of consultation-liaison psychiatry from a scientific perspective.
  • Association of Medicine and Psychiatry (AMP): Founded in 1991, the AMP is composed of primary care physicians and psychiatrists interested in working together to promote high quality patient care for those with concurrent physical and psychiatric difficulties, in developing guidelines for services and training experiences specifically designed to address the problems of these patients, and in fostering basic and applied research at the interface of medicine and psychiatry.
  • European Association of Psychosomatic Medicine (EAPM): Founded in 2000, the EAPM promotes the advance of scientific knowledge and clinical practice in C-L psychiatry and psychosomatics in Europe. It develops and promotes standards for training and practice and is a forum for presentation, dissemination, and discussion of scientific problems through annual meetings, conferences, workshops, and publications. Its website includes links to other European C-L psychiatry organizations.
  • American Psychosocial Oncology Society (APOS): Formerly known as the American Society of Psychosocial and Behavioral Oncology/AIDS (ASPBOA), this organization promotes the
    psychological, social, and physical well being of patients with cancer, AIDS, and allied diseases and fosters multidisciplinary communication about issues that relate to the subspecialty of psycho-oncology.
  • New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS): Founded in 1817, the NYAS is one of the oldest scientific organizations in the United States, bringing together leaders in science, business, academia, and government who are working at the frontiers of discovery, and promoting vital links between science and society. The Academy's mission is three-pronged: to advance scientific research and knowledge, support scientific literacy, and promote the resolution of society's global challenges through science-based solutions. It is a notable and enduring cultural institution in New York City as well as one of the most significant organizations in the international scientific community.

  • AIMS Center (Advancing Integrated Mental Health Solutions) at the University of Washington: Information and resources from early support of collaborative/integrated care.
  • The Playbook: Developed by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, in collaboration with five foundations, provides information and resources for collaborative/integrated care.

  • Psychiatry Journal Watch: The Massachusetts Medical Society's ongoing survey of over 50 psychiatry and general medical journals, with summaries of medical news, drug information, and public health alerts.
  • For non-profit institutions in developing countries:
    HINARI, the Health InterNetwork Access to Research Initiative: Sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) and other partners, provides free or very low-cost online access to 2,900 major journals (including Psychosomatics) in biomedical and related social sciences to local, not-for-profit institutions in over 100 developing countries.
