Dear Colleagues,
The Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (ACLP) Board meets regularly to discuss goals and challenges for our organization as well as on how best to steward our resources, sometimes in the context of divisive topics our country faces today. At our most recent meeting, we discussed concerns expressed by some members around the site of this year’s and future annual meetings in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
The mission of the ACLP is to support “education, research, and advocacy to advance integrated psychiatric care for the medically ill.” In a world where we envision “optimal health through integrated medical and psychiatric care,” ACLP supports women’s health unequivocally.
Decisions regarding annual meeting site selection are based on member feedback, with significant financial contractual commitments made years in advance that would result in a large financial loss for the ACLP if not honored. We will share the pragmatic details of the decision-making process for site selection at the 2023 annual members’ business meeting in Austin and welcome discussion on where members would like to meet in the future. Some members have expressed health concerns and we will continue to make virtual attendance possible so everyone can participate in a way that is comfortable for them.
