Learning from the past to lead for the future
We are delighted to welcome home Rebecca Weintraub Brendel, MD, JD, FACLP (ACLP president 2018-19), now president of the American Psychiatric Association, and her CEO medical director at the APA, Saul Levin, MD, MPA, FRCP-E, FRCPsych, who will be our opening plenary speakers today (9:15 AM) in the Salon.

Dr. Brendel is director of the Master’s Degree Program at the Harvard Medical School Center for Bioethics, of which she is also an associate director. She bases her clinical work in Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital where she is the director of Law and Ethics at the Center for Law, Brain, and Behavior.
Before taking up his role at the APA in 2013, Dr. Levin led the District of Columbia Department of Health. There, he was responsible for the health of the nation’s capital, including primary care for from infants to seniors on Medicaid and Medicare, DC-funded health care, HIV/AIDS, addictions, health professional licensing and regulation, policy and planning. He was also responsible for health emergency preparedness, planning, and coordinating alongside dozens of federal and local agencies to ensure the public’s health during major events such as President Obama’s second inauguration.
