We are just two short months away from what promises to be an engaging, invigorating, and thought-provoking Annual Meeting! We look forward to welcoming all attendees—whether you are with us in person in Miami or joining us virtually.

The CLP 2024 theme, Promoting Whole Health Through Innovative and Integrative Approaches to C-L ‎Psychiatry, highlights the breadth of our work in C-L Psychiatry and embraces our roles in caring for the whole person. We are developing a rigorous scientific program and as always will have multiple opportunities to enhance professional and social connections.

Reflecting the theme, this year’s meeting includes innovative content focusing on areas such as mindfulness, a course in reflective writing, an update on nutritional psychiatry with a culinary demonstration, and a special guest live storytelling and music performance. We hope that in the meeting you will find your mind stimulated, your heart full, and your spirit rejuvenated!

The Annual Meeting Committee has been hard at work preparing an extraordinary program with opportunities for networking, mentorship, and making new connections. As the Academy has been growing in size and diversity, we have responded by adding exciting new features to our program.

The scientific program is expanding, with an increase in the numbers of general sessions, posters, and live oral paper presentations. Our preconference program on Wednesday has expanded substantially:

  • We will be offering four FREE morning courses (Updates in C-L Psychiatry, Advocacy Skills, Advanced Practice Provider course, and a Reflective Writing course in a new brief course format).
  • The Developing Scholarship and Research Colloquium, now in its second year, expands to a full day event.
  • Ten afternoon Skills courses will provide something for everybody’s learning needs.

The main program runs from Thursday through Saturday:

  • Each day will feature plenary sessions as well as one special invited presidential general session.
  • All presenters are encouraged to include relevant DEIA concepts and content.
  • Posters will be 4-foot x 4-foot which allows us to have 233 poster presentations on Thursday evening, the largest number ever at the Annual Meeting.
  • Concurrent sessions will be 75 minutes to focus on high-yield content while allowing learners to sample more sessions during the meeting itself.
  • On Friday evening, we will celebrate our award winners at a Champagne Awards Toast.
  • We are introducing a new format for the Saturday plenary on Psychedelic Therapeutics in C-L Psychiatry which will be a lively and fun session.
  • After fulfilling our brains and minds with the scientific program, to close out Saturday we have an amazing performance artist who will provide an experiential session combining storytelling and reflective music to nourish our whole selves as healers.
  • We have added pre-recorded oral papers and more live ones which has allowed us to increase the acceptance rate for oral papers from 44% to 70%!
  • As previously, all sessions will be recorded and available for future viewing.

Our program will host a range of social events and activities including:

  • The ACLP Saloon that debuted last year in Austin will transform into the fun and festive ACLP Cabana in Miami—stop by Thursday or Friday for social connections and networking!
  • Five early career breakout sessions will convene during Friday’s lunch.
  • An exciting walking and food tour in Little Havana is offered on Friday.
  • The Wednesday Welcome mixer, Thursday opening reception, Trainee Meet and Greet, and lunches Thursday, Friday, and Saturday return this year.

And more—we are putting the finishing touches on a few more extras, so stay tuned as we make further announcements in the lead-up to the meeting!

A partnership of professionals

It truly takes a community to stand up the Annual Meeting and it is a genuine privilege to oversee such a talented and dedicated group of professionals who have partnered in its success. This includes not only the many members of our Annual Meeting subcommittees, but also the hundreds of you who submitted tremendous scientific content and/or helped us review those submissions.

We had 785 abstracts submitted this year, a record number representing growth of more than 50% over the last two years. Even after increasing the number of sessions, the overall acceptance improved only minimally to 50% this year. Many excellent submissions therefore could not be accepted. For those interested, check out the Annual Meeting website where we will publish more details on the trends of abstracts submitted and accepted over the years.

We had so many terrific submissions and we wish that the schedule and venue could accommodate even more of our members’ work. We are so grateful for all the contributions each of you have made to our field and the C-L Psychiatry community, whether or not you will be presenting at this year’s meeting. As the Academy continues to grow, we will need to invoke all of our creative ideas to expand our Annual Meeting and continue to find ways throughout the year to showcase the talent in our field.

The spirit of volunteerism is alive and well in the Academy and this was evident in the more than 160 of you who signed on as CLP 2024 volunteer reviewers this Spring. While initially focusing on workshop & symposia/general sessions, the breadth of reviews has grown and now Academy members also review brief oral papers and poster abstracts.

This year we surveyed Academy members who participated in the abstract review process, and the results are amazing: 74 of the 75 respondents stated they might volunteer again next year! This year, the volunteer abstract reviewers were assigned a mix of posters, oral papers, and general sessions; more than 80% of volunteers preferred reviewing a mix of submissions and 70% were satisfied with being assigned submission types rather than choosing on their own. In addition, almost 70% of respondents said the workload was manageable and the majority of respondents stated they felt well prepared by the Academy to perform the role. We hope these encouraging results will inspire you to participate in the future as your engagement and voice make the meeting content better! And don’t forget, abstract reviewers receive CME credit for their time!

As you may know, we will be convening immediately following Election Day. We want to acknowledge that our membership is diverse and represents a wide range of ideas, experiences, and perspectives. The Academy is a vibrant community serving as a professional home for all of you. Although we all come from different places personally and professionally, we can be assured that CLP 2024 will offer you the opportunity to immerse yourself in a community of colleagues committed to care of our patients and each other. Please don’t forget to VOTE.

We’re looking forward to raising our glasses with you in November!

Cheers,

Amy, Anne and Madeleine
